How do I search for my next role?

To search for current roles, please click the ‘Vacancies’ link, on the navigation bar. This page will display all current vacancies.

Use the search criteria drop-down menus to search for a job as follows:

  • by job type  to view either permanent or fixed-term roles by free text
  • to search for key words in the role profile
  • to search for jobs by location

You can also sort the results by:

  • date posted
  • relevance
  • job title
  • reference number (if you have seen the role advertised elsewhere)
  • distance

Once you have reviewed the role profile, you can click the ‘apply now’ button to start the application process.

How do I apply for my next role?

Already registered?

If you have registered with us before and already created an account, the application process is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Once you have logged on to your account, you can start the application process by clicking ‘apply now’ for the role you are interested in. You will then be asked to:

  • upload your completed application form
  • complete the equal opportunities questions
  • agree to our privacy statement

Your application will then be submitted, and you can monitor the progress under ‘your next role’ in ‘vacancies'.

New applicant?

By clicking on ‘apply now’, you will start the application process. You will firstly be asked to create an account (with your email address and a password of your choice), and by submitting your personal details. (This is how we will contact you throughout the application process so we would recommend using your personal phone number and email address).

Once you have completed these two steps, the process is the same as above.

You will be asked to:

  • upload your completed application form
  • complete the equal opportunities questions
  • agree to our Privacy Statement

Your application will then be submitted, and you can monitor the progress under ‘your next role’ in ‘vacancies'.

Confirmation of your application

You will automatically be emailed to acknowledge receipt of your application.

We do appreciate the time and effort that applicants invest in applying for opportunities with National Museums Scotland. Unfortunately due to the high numbers of applications we receive we are unable to respond to every candidate to inform them whether or not they have been shortlisted for interview. If you have not had any response within six weeks of the closing date, you should assume that your application has been unsuccessful.

Application status

You can check your application status by logging onto your account on our careers website and looking under the ‘your applications’ tab in ‘your next role’.

The status will show as either:

  • CV/application received
  • shortlisting
  • invite to interview
  • interview stage
  • withdrawn
  • offered role
  • regret
